Use the Workspace Manager

Using the Manager
Ask questions about your workspace. Read the transcript

The Workspace Manager helps you inspect and configure your Workspace through chat. Ask where something lives, read the answer, and review any proposed action before approving it.

Before You Begin

  • Have the Manager role and a configured Manager model in the Workspace.

Start a Manager Chat

  1. Open Manager AI from the sidebar.
  2. Describe the task and the result you want. For example: “Where do I change this Workspace's timezone?”
  3. Add an image, PDF, Markdown, CSV, or Excel (.xlsx) file if the task needs it. Open Skills to see loaded Skills or choose another to load with your next message.
  4. Submit the request, read the answer, and review any proposed action before approving it.
  5. Follow the Manager's link to the setting, or continue in the same Chat to refine the request.

For reusable procedures, see Build Manager Skills. You can also change settings directly in Workspace settings.

Review a proposed action

When the Manager asks for approval, read the proposed change before continuing. Open Details if you need to check the tool and its arguments.

  • Choose Approve to run the proposed action once.
  • Choose Reject to stop it. You can add a reason, then choose Confirm. For example, say which destination you intended; the Manager receives that reason and can propose a revised action for you to review.
  • Choose Always only when you want future calls to that tool approved for you across Manager Chats in this Workspace. This choice survives the current Chat and expires after 90 days. It does not approve the tool for other Members or for every Workflow. Some actions still require fresh approval.

Use Show chat to read the Chat while deciding. The pending request remains available until you answer it.

Choose a Model

Open the model-and-effort control beside Skills in the composer toolbar, even before starting a Chat. Adjust reasoning effort with the slider, or click the current model to open the model list. Your choices are remembered in this browser. Compare the displayed price multiplier before choosing a model; higher effort can increase the tokens used by a response.

Open the Computer

Open Computer beside the composer or in the header to enable or disable Web Browser and Code Interpreter. The switches apply to the next turn and carry into your next Manager Chat. Opening the menu alone does not change them.

Inside a Manager Chat, use Computer in the page header to open its browser preview and Chat or Me files. The header remains available while you review an approval request. Expand the browser preview to open its live view. Existing file permissions still apply; this panel does not expose an Agent's personal files. Messages typed while the Manager works wait for the current turn to finish; the notice beside Auto-approve explains that state.

In the Manager chat sidebar, expand Web browser below the header when a session is open. This shows a thumbnail; click it to expand and interact. The blue capability icon means a session is open; its spinner means a command is running. Collapse the preview to give the Chat more room.

Cookies and site storage stay with the Chat across browser sessions, subject to website expiry. Use the browser’s top-right menu to clear cookies and site storage explicitly. A new Chat has separate browser storage.

Take Over the Browser

The Manager can pause and open its browser view when a step needs your input. Expand the preview, complete the requested step in the browser, then choose Return control. The Manager checks the current page before continuing. This pause still requires your response when Auto-approve is on.

Choose Continue without takeover when you cannot complete the step. If no browser session is available, skip the request and ask the Manager to open it again. Keep passwords and other sensitive values out of Chat messages.

Keep Work Across Chats

For an initiative that needs several sessions, ask the Manager to create a project plan with the goal, decisions, open questions, and next steps. Review and continue that plan in a later Chat. Plans are saved in Workspace Files; existing File permissions control who can read them.

For a recurring procedure, ask it to write a how-to guide with any required templates. When the procedure changes, ask it to update the guide. Use Manager Skills when you want to repeat a tested task.

Check Workspace Configuration

Ask “Check my Workspace for configuration issues.” The Manager can run a read-only configuration check and report findings with suggested fixes. Review the findings before requesting changes. Ask for ability and CEL drift checks when you need the additional per-Workflow checks.
