Sites
Create a Site, connect a Workflow, and publish a page. Read the transcript
A Site can give visitors a page with information and a way to start a conversation with a Workflow. Start by creating a public Site and publishing one page.
Before You Begin
- Have the Sites feature and permission to manage Sites.
- Choose a tested Workflow for visitor conversations and prepare public-facing page content.
Create and Publish a Page
- In Add New Site, enter a name visitors will recognize, select the Workflow, and choose the Customer Basic site type.
- Open Access & Permissions, turn on Make site publicly accessible, then choose Create.
- Open the Site and choose Add Page. Enter a title and write what visitors need to know, such as what you offer, when you are open, and what to do next.
- Leave the page in Draft while reviewing it. When it is ready, open Page Settings and change Status to Published.
Publishing makes the page live. The example page includes a Chat Now button connected to the selected Workflow; the publish action offers an Undo option.
What You Should See
The Site is public, the page status is Published, and visitors can use Chat Now to reach the connected Workflow. Review public copy and access before publishing.
After publishing, review visitor access and the settings below. To build scheduled follow-up, continue with Journeys.
Default Workflow
Open an existing site's General tab and select its Default Workflow. Chat and voice interactions use that Workflow unless the page or interaction explicitly selects another one. Sites do not have Routing Rules or a Routing tab.
Check the published site as both a signed-in Member and an anonymous visitor before launch.
Anonymous Form
On an existing site's Access & Permissions tab, choose an Anonymous Form to let visitors who can't sign in leave their details. The list shows only Forms whose kind is Anonymous (create one under Forms; see Anonymous Forms); choose None to turn it off. The site must be public.
Themes that support it offer the Form to anonymous visitors. The Cosán enrollment theme, for example, shows "Leave your details and the practice will contact you" on its first screen and after a visitor's name and date of birth can't be verified. Submissions appear on the Form's Entries tab.
Managing Pages
Use the Menu tab to organize links to pages and external URLs.
Themes determine the layout and available visitor controls. Check the published result after changing a theme; not every theme offers the same chat or voice experience.
Custom Domains
Every site gets a platform address with no setup: {site-slug}--{workspace-slug}.sites.gravityrail.com. To serve a site from your own domain instead:
- An organization admin adds the domain on the organization's Domains page, verifies ownership, and enables sites on it.
- Open the site and, on the General tab, choose the domain from the Domain list.
- Save the site.
Domains that aren't ready yet appear in the list but can't be chosen; the reason is shown next to each one.
When enabling sites on a domain, the admin picks one of two setups:
- This domain only — one site at that exact address, such as
portal.example.com. Each domain needs its own DNS records. - Host many sites under this domain — a parent domain, such as
enroll.example.com, that holds a separate host for each of your locations (practice-a.enroll.example.com, and so on). Two DNS records are published once, and hosts are added afterwards with no DNS work. See Child Hosts.
A custom domain with sites enabled but no site assigned shows a plain "Nothing is published here yet" page until a site is assigned to it.
Member Access
For a private Site, choose which Member Roles may sign in from the Site's Share dialog. Open the Site and select Share in its header; roles listed under People and roles with access are in the Site audience. A Member can sign in when their role is included.
Public Signup
Review public access and the Join setting on the Site's Access & Permissions tab, then choose the Role used for new Members. Review that Role's permissions before allowing visitors to create accounts.
Troubleshooting
- Domain not resolving? Check its DNS records and verification status on the organization's Domains page.
- Domain listed but can't be chosen? It isn't fully verified yet — the reason is shown next to it in the Domain list.
- Visitors see "Nothing is published here yet"? No site is assigned to that domain. Choose it on the site's General tab and save.
