Messaging App Connections
Discord, Slack, and Microsoft Teams connections bring provider messages into Gravity Rail Chats. Add and configure a connection in App Connections; this page describes the developer-facing identity and message entry points.
Provider identity
| Provider | Connection model | Developer-facing distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Discord | Multiple bot connections | A bot installation receives supported server and direct-message interactions. |
| Slack | Multiple app connections | An installed app can receive inbound messages; a linked Member account can also authorize actions on that Member's behalf. |
| Microsoft Teams | Multiple app connections | An installed app handles inbound Teams chats; a linked Member account can authorize delegated actions. |
The message channel identifies the external source in the resulting Chat. Use the platform's Chat and messaging contracts for subsequent reads and writes: Chats API. The connection's app identity and a linked Member identity serve different purposes; choose the one that matches the operation.
Discord
Discord connections use a bot app. The bot must be invited to the server where it should receive interactions. Review Discord's bot and application documentation for application setup and permissions; then use the Gravity Rail connection flow to link it to a workspace.
Slack
Slack supports an installed app identity for inbound app messages and a separate linked Member account for delegated Slack actions. The installed app can route supported inbound messages to an Agent or Workflow; the linked Member account acts with that Member's provider authorization. See Slack's OAuth and permissions documentation for provider app concepts and Slack user guide for connection setup.
Microsoft Teams
Teams uses an installed app identity for inbound messages and can also link a Member's Microsoft account for delegated actions. The Teams app connection and the linked account have separate authorization purposes. See Microsoft's Teams developer documentation for app and bot concepts, and the Teams user guide for setup.
